EG Farmers Market: Early Apples, Organic Melons, Peaches and of course Tomatoes

The weatherman is predicting iffy weather for Wednesday's Market day, but unless we have a thunderstorm, downpours or a tornado (please, no), most - if not all - of our regular vendors will be there.  So plan to stop by to stock up before the long Labor Day weekend!

We're moving into late summer produce now, with early apples (and apple dumplings from Lost Acres Orchard), organic melons (cantaloupes, canary melons and maybe watermelons from Oxen Hill Farm), peaches, late season raspberries and blueberries, beautiful beets, crisp spinach and other greens, all different color peppers, bushels of tasty heirloom tomatoes, fresh picked acorn squash (from Sweet Wind Farm), carrots, a variety of potatoes, zucchini, broccoli, eggplant, onions, corn and lots more.  As usual, we'll have fresh meat, maple products and honey, some new flavors of jams and jellies, vegan snacks, fresh flowers, cheese and yogurt, and all the other usual favorites.  And Italian ice, which is just as tasty on an overcast day as it is on a sunny day.

Jen Hosack will also be there to play guitar and sing.  Jen is one of our popular favorites at the market, and she and fiddle player Nola Campbell will be with us the last two weeks of this year's season for lively string music.

This week's vendors:  Chet's Italian Ice, George Hall Farm, Hastings Farm, Hemlock Knoll, Lost Acres Orchard, Newgate Farm, Oxen Hill Farm, Raw Food Central, Sweet Pea Farm, Sweet Wind Farm.

East Granby Farmers Market is a farm-oriented venue for the very best in Connecticut grown produce, meats, cheeses, baked goods, and other handmade and locally harvested items.  The Market is open from 3 - 6PM on Wednesdays, June 19th through September 25th, 2013, and is located at The Center Shops, corner of Routes 20 and 187, in the center of East Granby.  The Market is run entirely by volunteers, and vendor fees directly benefit the East Granby Public Library.
