can't take from April, too late and too close
Sheila April 2, 2013 at 12:39 pm
My daughter's teacher already has plane tickets, it's not just the kids who would have to "makeRead More up work." We might have to bring in more than 1 substitute teacher - to teach half-empty classrooms? - if other people have plans that they can't or don't want to cancel at this late date. The Scouts would probably cancel their trip to Gettysburg if they have school on Monday - if they don't, there will be a lot of middle-school and high-school boys out. Taking days out of April vacation could potentially affect a lot more plans than just taking a day out of a 4-day weekend, or making a 4-day week into a 5-day week in June. FWIW, my kids have already said that they would rather go an extra day in May and an extra day in June than give up the vacation (the first in 2 years) they've been looking forward to. I agree that there should be more delayed openings instead of cancellations. Or maybe we should just plan on 10 emergency days instead of 5, and get out earlier in June if we don't use them all. Better to not have an April vacation scheduled than to force people to cancel their plans with 10 days notice.

I would rather have days in June off instead of days in April. For the handful of people who wereRead More planning on jet setting out of Granby in April, go, just come back and make up your work. Also the PD days, take them. I don't see a need for Granby to have PD days all the time. A lot of other schools don't have PD days. One more thing, quit canceling school every time there is a hint of snow in the air and every time a few flakes might hit the ground during the school day. If the bus company is so gun shy that it can't or won't operate under just the threat of snow then get a better bus company.

cut one vice principal at high school, over kill. celebrate pat law is leaving
Granby Resident April 27, 2013 at 08:15 pm
Maybe we can cut the over paid management at the public works department and let HPJ run theRead More department. But then who would drive the 3 gas guzzler trucks around doing there personal business on town time with town vehicles. And why do 3 people each need to drive a truck home on our gas???
Happy Percy April 26, 2013 at 05:40 pm
Plenty of other positions and projects can be cut, too. Pond House...gone!!!!

85% of Granby voters did not vote at the budget referendum on 4/22. Get out there and vote on MayRead More 6!!! Vote yes for our schools and quality of life!

Congrats to the Granby teachers and students. Too bad much of the town doesn't feel the same way. -Read More Granby Budget Proposal Defeated at Referendum

Paul, the Granby Board of Education is scheduled to vote Wednesday on how to make up seven snowRead More days. We'll have a story on that vote tomorrow and another when they decide.

What about Granby's last day of the year?

I agree with all of the points in this post. Being a business professional, I am often appalled byRead More the inaccurate use of sentence structure especially in business writing. Many of the new hires directly out of college often communicate by writing everything from their stream of consciousness. Although today's various new forms of digital communication (Twitter, FB, etc.) may actually influence and encourage the lack of attention to correct grammar, such mediums should not be that much of an impact on business communication. All this being said, I do now question today's educational emphasis on effective writing skills from grammar school through the collegiate level.

So, it appears, is common sense. But I am sure U R right. :-)

So, hopefully, their print is adequate... and it may well be... You see, when the power goes out, aRead More pencil and paper can do what a PC and printer cannot.

Granby is too adicted to closing school at very hint of a flake of snow. The storm is over and weRead More got an whopping 3 inches of snow. I say open the schools NOW !!! Let the kids get back to school instead of giving up the whole month of June. Really I remember going to school in Simsbury in the 60's and 70's with chains on the tires. The chicken feces that runs the schools today are too risk adverse.

Take a look at the entrance area outside Abbott Tech in Danbury, a 2 story Pi. Pi is an irrationalRead More number. It is created by dividing a circles circumference by it's diameter. Virtually all solutions for Pi calculated by modern devices, either us a constant to the number of digits the device is capable of supporting, or calculate Pi using a power series to approximate it's value with ever greater precision. As the value of Pi is irrational, the power series solution would be infinite. A mathematical power series must be transformed into a computational algorithm, either by looking at prior art, or employing a computer scientist who understands mathematics. Iterative processes on infinite series are interesting, but can lead to infinite loops. Managing manipulation of various functions and constants (Sine, Tangent, Pi, e). We take for granted the ability to get very accurate results for many functions and constants today, in the past, calculation was impossible without direct measurement as the mathematics and methods for calculation weren't up to the task.

these guys did this all season long. they had so many last second wins it was unbelievable but IRead More was at all of them so it was believable. Great season, something that has never been done before in Granby by a boys basketball team.

Tremendous comeback boys, it was a pleasure sitting at courtside and reporting on your amazingRead More championship. Congratulations!

the game will be broadcast on CPTV sports channel live Saturday morning for those that cannot go.

This '67er is SO happy to read that the basketball Bears are playing for the state championship! IRead More will be rooting for you and looking for the article about the Bears' WIN!
Ron March 15, 2013 at 03:05 pm
If granby plays its game and they play like a team on defense helping each other, getting to theRead More boards and on offense distributing the ball appropriately then they will win. If they do not play like a team they will lose. This is Granbys game to win or lose. Weaver is a good team but Granby has too much if they play together on both ends as a team.
Hunter March 12, 2013 at 10:47 pm
I have to agree. College is NOT a career, but I know people that have spent as much as 12 years inRead More academia, and are now on faculty at the campus, never having experienced the 'real world'.
J D C March 12, 2013 at 10:28 pm
Useless article imo. Just more bs and enabling. When does it stop?
Laura I. Maniglia March 11, 2013 at 09:05 pm
As I stated in a previous blog, the College Board has recognized problems and plans to modify theRead More test again. However, no target date has appeared for the revisions. Learning "active reading" techniques can certainly help, not only with the SAT & ACT, but with reading and studying in general.
Susan Schoenberger (Editor) March 4, 2013 at 06:12 pm
That was a typo and entirely my fault, GCR. It has been corrected.

""We very honored," Principal Robert Gilbert said in a phone interview." Hmmm,Read More standards must be low if that's the way the principal speaks.
