The event is slated for Thursday, Jan. 2.

By Chris Dehnel

On Jan. 2 at 7:30 p.m., the New England Civil War Museum will host a presentation by Ed Campolongo on the United States Christian Commission, a volunteer group established by the YMCA to meet the spiritual and physical needs of the Union soldiers during the Civil War.

Attendees can learn more about the inspiring deeds of service that brought comfort to the wounded soldiers and hope to their families back home.

A longtime educator and pastor, Ed Campolongo serves at the Church of the Risen Savior in Vernon. He holds a B.A. in history from the Kings College, and a master's degree in educational administration from Columbia International University. He currently serves as the principal at the Pioneer Valley Christian School in Springfield, MA.

The talk is free and open to the public. The museum is located at the Grand Army of the Republic Hall in the Vernon Town Hall.
