Errors Hurt Granby Memorial in State Softball Championship

Lost 6-3 in Class M title game Sunday.

For the second straight year, the Granby Memorial High softball team stumbled in the state Class M title game, with the Bears losing to Waterford 6-3 on Sunday, according to the Hartford Courant.

The second-seeded Bears uncharacteristically committed five errors - four in the first three innings - to enable the Lancers to win their fourth state title.

"It was evident from the get-go that unfortunately we were a little tight," Granby Memorial coach Brian McDermot to the Hartford Courant. "We've got a great defense and four errors, and look what they led to. You can't do that…and unfortunately we paid the ultimate price."

Pitcher Courtney Ahrens had two hits and an RBI for the Bears, Jaimee Kidd had an RBI double, the Courant reported.

It was the first lost for Granby Memorial, which finished the season with a 21-2 record, since Suffield defeated the Bears 7-4 on April 24.
