The Farmington Valley YMCA sent five girls to the Northeast YMCA Regional Gymnastics Championships on the weekend of May 14.
Held in Waterville, Maine, the competition hosted over 850 top qualifying gymnasts in the YMCA league.
More than 35 teams from six states in the northeast region attended the event.
Nine-year-old Level 4 gymnast Abby Larson had an exceptional meet, taking first place on beam and floor, and becoming her age group’s Northeast Regional All Around Champion with a score of 36.425.
Amy Briggs, age 10, also fared well in her age group, winning the gold medal on both beam and floor and placing fourth All Around with a 36.475.
In the competitive 12+ age group, Julia Moody earned medals on bars, beam, and floor.
Eight-year-old Level 4 gymnast Megan Wassick earned a medal on floor.
Competing as a team of just four gymnasts, the Farmington Valley YMCA Level 4s came in a respectable 13th place in the Northeast region.
Representing the Level 5s for Farmington Valley was sole gymnast Cara Ferro, age 10, who earned a medal on bars in her age group.
While the rest of the team gets ready for a summer of new skills, for three Farmington Valley gymnasts, the season is not over yet. Julia Moody, Cara Ferro, and Cailin Hesketh will compete at YMCA Nationals in Toledo, Ohio on June 26.
With just weeks left to prepare, the girls continue to work hard as they look forward to their first national competition.
