Second Referendum on Granby Budget is Monday

Voting hours are noon to 8 p.m.

Granby voters will take to the polls Monday to weigh in on the town's revised 2013-2014 budget.

Residents defeated the first proposal on Monday, April 22, after which the Board of Finance cut 1 percent, or $330,000 from the budget.

That brought the budget to $41,622,968, a 1.8 percent increase in spending over the 2012-2013 approved budget of $40,881,148.

At a subsequent public hearing on the revised proposal, numerous supporters of the school budget asked for a second chance at the original proposal but the Board of Finance ultimately decided not to make further adjustments.

Approximately 15 percent of qualified voters came out the first time around in the 617 to 514 defeat.

The machine vote will take place from noon to 8 p.m. Monday, May 6 in the town meeting room.
