Rain Continues To Cause Minor Flooding In Granby

Mechanicsville Road and Salmon Brook Park remain closed while public works crews monitor Hungary Road.

A flood watch is still in effect for our region as the rain continues to cause minor flooding in Granby.

According to the National Weather Service a flood watch indicates a potential for flooding based on current forecasts.

The Granby Public Works Department had reopened Mechanicsville Thursday afternoon after repairs were made to a washed-out portion of the road but overnight rain has sent water spilling back over and the road was closed again early Friday morning.

"Right now we're starting to get the calls that water is starting to pool up, starting to flow over Mechanicsville," Granby Public Works Deputy Director of Operations Kirk Severance.

Severance said crews are monitoring portions of Hungary Road that are prone to flooding but they have not had to close the road yet.

The town of East Granby has not had any road closures this week but did report flooding in one of the town's parks.

"We're in pretty good shape," East Granby Public Works Supervisor Ed Hubbard said.  "Granbrook Park was flooded earlier but that water has receded."
