Granby Residents Oppose Proposed Development

A proposed development would plant 75 homes on 14 acres near Granby's historic district.

A proposed housing development could plant 75 new homes on a 14-acre parcel of land adjacent to Granby's historic district.

Granby resident Lynn Lochhead and some of her neighbors are concerned about the proposed development and hope to see the town wait for a better alternative.

Several small white signs posted along Salmon Brook Street in Granby's Historic District, just south of the town center, appeal to fellow residents to oppose a new development that would plant 75 new homes on a 14 acre at 235 Salmon Brook Street.

Pending a formal application, the town has not made any decisions about the proposed development, but Lochhead had an opportunity to voice hers during a preliminary application hearing.

Her concern is not about the property being developed, although she admits it will be sad to see a beautiful piece of open space disappear.

"It's on city sewer, city water, and it's on a main road. Something is going to go in there. I just hope whatever does go in there is in keeping with the historic area."

Lochhead said her main concern is squeezing 75 homes on just 14 acres with an entry point on a busy road that often has traffic backed up past the historic district.

"That's 75 homes worth of cars," Lochhead said. "I'm not sure that's the right use for this land."
