[Updated: 2:30 a.m.] Names Released In Fatal Tractor-Trailer Accident On Route 20

A fatal tractor-trailer crash occurred between Granby and East Granby on Route 20 Wednesday afternoon, not far from the Windsor town line.

1 a.m. Update:

Connecticut State Police released the name of the victim and the driver in a fatal, head on crash between a car and a tractor-trailer on Route 20 in East Granby Wednesday afternoon, close to the Granby town line.

The Hartford Courant reported that the victim in the tragic accident was Ewa McGovern, 40, of Granby. State police also released information about the driver of the tractor-trailer, identifying him as Jean Joseph, of New Jersey.

East Granby First Selectman Jim Hayden said an investigative unit from the Connecticut State Police was at the scene in the late afternoon and evening to attempt to reconstruct the collision.

The accident, which occurred between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., closed Route 20 for several hours through the evening commute as police and other emergency service providers responded to the accident. Local traffic was detoured onto side roads.

The tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound on Route 20 when the collision with McGovern's vehicle, a Jeep, occurred, according to the Courant.

McGovern and Joseph were transported to St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, the Courant said.

7:30 p.m. Update:

A tractor-trailer collided with a passenger vehicle on Route 20 in East Granby near the Windsor town line Wednesday afternoon between 3:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., according to East Granby First Selectman Jim Hayden. WFSB has reported that the accident caused one death.

The accident has the main route between East Granby and Granby and a main artery into the Farmington Valley from I-91 shut down to traffic, with a detour route marked. Connecticut State Police are investigating the accident, taking photographs and measurements, among other duties.

"Route 20 is closed at this point," Hayden said around 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, noting that emergency personnel and response crews are working on reopening Route 20.

5:30 p.m. Update:

WFSB has reported that the accident that has Route 20 in East Granby near the Windsor town line closed as of 5 p.m. Wednesday involved a fatality. More information about the accident is below, but police haven't released the name of the deceased person or said if there were any injuries.

According to WFSB, a portion of Route 20 in East Granby is closed due to a tractor-trailer accident.

The truck jackknifed near Newgate Road in East Granby, WFSB has reported, adding that the stretch of road may be closed for "about three hours."

Route 20 is a road frequently used by trucks traveling to and from warehouses in the New England Tradeport, which is located in Windsor's Rainbow neighborhood.

WFSB reports that it is currently unkown if injuries occured in the accident.
