Heavy Rain Causes Flooding In The Granbys

Road closures and basement flooding have been keeping the Lost Acres Fire Department and Granby Police busy.

Heavy rain over the weekend has caused a few road closures and plenty of damage to basements of homes in the region.

The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for most of the state including Hartford County.

Granby Public Works has closed Mechanicsville and Hungary roads due to severe flooding that has made the roads impassible.  The Lost Acres Fire Department was also busy Monday morning with calls from homeowners and businesses alike, all with flooded basements and buildings.

The Farmington Valley YMCA sustained damages to it's gym from flooding that will more than likely cause the wood floors to buckle.

"I would not be surprised if this was a total loss," Assistant Executive Director of the Farmington Valley YMCA Shawn Fongemie said.  "It's seeped underneath and there's no way we're going to get this dry."
