A Granby police officer was struck by a vehicle driven by an alleged drunk driver on Salmon Brook Street, just north of Route 20 on Sunday evening, according to police.
Officer Mark Garofalo was out of his marked cruiser assisting a disabled tractor trailer when he was struck by a vehicle driven by Daniel Kupruck, 31, of Southwick, MA, according to a press release.
Garofalo was transported by ambulance to Hartford Hospital and was released late Sunday night, the press release said. According to Granby Police Capt. William Tyler, Garofalo on Monday was in pain from "contusions and abrasions, but no fractures. His return to work status is as yet undetermined."
Kupruck, who was not injured, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol, operating without insurance, operating under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia, and striking a police officer with a vehicle.
Kupruck was released on $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Enfield Superior Court on Aug. 12.
Southwick (MA) Police assisted with traffic control at the scene.
Witnesses are asked to contact Sgt. Doreen Mikan of the Granby police at 860-844-5335.
