Granby Painter ‘Raffling’ Painting to Assist Fire Victims

Sheila Santiago said she can use her art to help those in need.

When Granby painter Sheila (Roberge) Santiago learned that a devastating fire affected her neighbors this past weekend she wanted to help.

The Collinsville native and 1979 Canton High School graduate lacks a steady income at the moment but was happy to use her artistic skills.

So Santiago is “raffling” one of her paintings, framed in a recycled 16 X 33 Recycled Kitchen cabinet door, for those affected by the fire at 282 North Granby Road Sunday morning.

Santiago doesn’t know those affected but lives on the same street and wanted to help.

She said it’s her understanding one person remains hospitalized with burns and that the occupants lost everything, including three cats and 2 dogs. They also need essential items like clothing. Since she lacks extra cash, Santiago figured she could "raffle" a painting.

“I’ve done some other donations this way,” she said. “It works.”

Santiago is unsure of how long she will keep the fundraiser going. For more information, see the facebook “event” or or use the pay pal e-mail of creativehanddesigns@yahoo.com.

Funds can also be mailed to:

  • Sheila Santiago
  • PO Box 5
  • Granby, CT 06035

Santiago said she would consider each $5 as a separate “ticket” from which to pick a winner. She said general donations and inquiries can also be sent through the e-mail address.
