[Updated 8:30 a.m. Sunday] State police have identified the driver of the car who died in the accident as David J. Myers, 35, of 18 N. Main St. in East Granby.
The accident remains under investigation, though a preliminary report states that Myers' Blue 1995 Volvo 850 was traveling south on South Main Street, swerved into the northbound lane, then back into the southbound lane. The vehicle then struck the utility pole on the driver's side in front of 88 S. Main St.
Myers was not wearing his seatbelt, according to police.
The road, which was closed from 7 p.m. Saturday to around 2 a.m. Sunday so workers could replace a utility pole, has reopened, according to state police.

The driver of a car that struck a utility pole at 88 S. Main St. in East Granby died Saturday evening.
State police, East Granby police and East Granby firefighters responded to the one-car accident that took place at 6:30 p.m.
The driver, the only occupant of the 1995 four-door Volvo 850, was pronounced dead at the scene, according state police Sgt. Scott Leonard.
"The car was driving southbound, went off the right shoulder and struck the utility pole on the driver's side," Leonard said.
The driver's identity is being withheld until family members can be notified, Leonard said.
The car splintered the utility pole, and CL&P workers were at the scene to replace the pole. South Main Street will be closed between Trevor Lane and Route 20 until around 2 a.m. Sunday, Leonard said.
The accident is still under investigation.
