Power outage numbers have spiked for Granby, an unfortunate change that is relatively small but still involves hundreds of CL&P customers.
Granby was down to 245 customers without power, or 5 percent, late Wednesday night. But that number has nearly doubled to 411 customers without power as of 10 a.m. Thursday morning. Those outages, new and continuing, are justifiably upsetting some community members.
"My area of West Granby was identified as having power restored at 4 a.m. this morning," wrote Granby resident Valorie Hollister. "it is more than five hours later and they still haven't turned us on after a lengthy repair last night."
Outage figures were stable in East Granby from Wednesday night into Thursday, with only 18 customers without power in that town as of Thursday morning.
Important: The Farmington Valley Health District has advised that residents of the Chelsea Condos in East Granby boil their water as a precaution until notified to stop by the condo association or the health district.
A town news update from East Granby First Selectman Jim Hayden: "At this point power has been restored to all but 18 residents in East Granby. CL&P anticipates that all remaining residents’ power will be restored by Saturday evening. House to house restoration by CL&P will begin later on today.
"If you or your neighbors do not have power please notify CL&P this morning and call the Selectman’s Office at 860-653-2576 so that we can follow-up with CL&P.
"The Town continues to maintain its Emergency Preparedness Plan and its Emergency Operations Center. The Emergency Shelter located at the Senior/Community Center is open today until 6 pm and we are prepared to provide shelter, water, warming and charging stations.
"We will keep residents informed via the web and on WTIC Radio and Channel 3. For those without power, the Farmington Valley Health Department reminds you not to use refrigerated food after the first 24 hours of a power outage."
