Mobile Foodshare Van Will Soon Start Visits to Granby

The Waste Not Want Not community kitchen and South Church are sponsoring the project.

As a supplement to other resources, a Mobile Foodshare van will begin coming to Granby on Tuesday, Feb. 19, to distribute food.

The van will be based in the parking lot between South Congregational Church at 242 Salmon Brook St. and the VNA building starting at noon every other Tuesday. The distribution is sponsored by the Waste Not Want Not community kitchen and South Church.

According to Sandy Flagg, the distribution "does not affect anyone's food bank allotment and you do not have to qualify for food bank to receive the van food."

"The van will distribute produce and food to anyone who comes to the site," Flagg said in an email. "You do not have to be pre-approved or verify any financial status, or give your name."

Flagg said the food varies but a recent distribution included a bag of white potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, tomatoes, carrots, oranges, apples, along with some bread and crackers.

"The Mobile Foodshare van is meant as a supplement to local resources and helps distribute food to families that are having difficulty making ends meet," Flagg said.
