Revolutionary War Encampment Planned for October in East Granby

The East Granby Economic Development Commission (EDC) will be hosting a Revolutionary War Encampment in East Granby on Saturday and Sunday, October 5th and 6th, 2013.  It will feature Old Lebanon Towne Militia - a living history group that traces its roots back to the Battle of Boston in 1775, the Marquis of Granby Antient Fyfe & Drum Corps, and other historically oriented groups.  This will be a family friendly, community wide event to be held at East Granby Farms, 79 North Main Street, and will be offered to the public free of charge.

Old Lebanon Towne Militia focuses on camp life, which traditionally included women and children.  In addition to their military focus on drills and artillery practice, they provide demonstrations of camp cooking and artisan skills.  They may be accompanied by other groups portraying British soldiers, Native Americans or other American militia.

Plans for related and compatible activities - historical demonstrations, food, entertainment, walking tours, etc. are still being made.

East Granby Historical Society is providing significant support for this event, and several other local organizations, such as the East Granby Women's Club, East Granby Land Trust, East Granby Lions Club, are supporting and/or participating.  The EDC encourages other area organizations interested in becoming involved to contact Paul Thulen at 860-214-6814; or Tami Zawistowski at 860-658-1191 or tami.z@resourcebooks.net.

East Granby EDC sponsors local events to support area businesses and the community.  The EDC also spearheads East Granby Farmers Market - for more information about the market, see www.egfarmersmarket.com or subscribe to the Market blog on Patch at http://granby-eastgranby.patch.com/blogs/east-granby-farmers-market.
