SIMSBURY BANK PROUDLY SPONSORS SENATOR WITKOS' CELEBRATION OF LOCAL STUDENT WRITERS

SIMSBURY, CT- June 26, 2014 – Senator Kevin Witkos (R-8) recognized 12 Simsbury students as winners of their school essay contest sponsored by Simsbury Bank. The winning students, sixth graders from six local schools, were presented with citations from Senator Witkos during an award ceremony at Simsbury Bank on Hopmeadow Street on Monday, June 9, 2014.

The winning students wrote essays in response to the question: If you were a Connecticut lawmaker, what bill would you propose and why? A common theme among many of the responses was preserving the environment. A winner and runner-up was selected from each school.

“By holding this contest, I wanted to get students thinking about state government and the role lawmakers play in shaping our community,” said Senator Witkos. “This gave students an opportunity to fully express their own observations, concerns and plans for change. I was impressed and inspired by their ideas and the way they see and interpret the world around them. These young writers surely have bright futures ahead of them all.”

“It was evident that these students put a great deal of time and consideration into their ideas.  Their articulate and thoughtful essays demonstrate their awareness of current issues, hopes for their futures and their understanding of how our government can help shape positive change.  Simsbury Bank is proud to have sponsored and hosted this essay contest.  As a community bank, it is our pleasure to take the opportunity to recognize their outstanding achievements,” said Martin Geitz, President & CEO of Simsbury Bank.
