Hop Meadow Country Club Welcomes Home Simsbury Native Joe Cordani, Jr. as New Head Golf Professional

Hop Meadow Country Club, the private, full-service country club located in Simsbury, CT announces Joe Cordani, Jr. as head golf professional, according to Club President, Peter Zummo.  “We are very excited to have Joe join our team.  He’s a hometown guy with an outstanding record of accomplishments.  We’re confident he will continue our strong tradition of teaching and enhance our family-oriented culture,” Zummo says.

As a 22 year PGA professional, Joe will provide traditional golf activities and private lessons but also intends to expand the offering to accommodate the diverse needs of today’s country club member.  “When I was growing up, the game of golf was an all day commitment,” Cordani said.  “That doesn’t work in today’s society.  People want flexibility to play a few holes or a full round and require offerings that include the entire family.  That’s the trend and we’ll have programs to reflect that.”

Cordani, who will also be responsible for membership development, states, “affordability and value is so important for families in our market.”  His first priority will be to “simply get more people on the course,” Cordani said.  “Whether its juniors, women, or new families from the community, the course is the crown jewel of this club.”  Hop Meadow’s Geoffrey Cornish designed championship layout continues to be viewed as one of the top courses in central Connecticut.  Complimented by its tennis and pool facilities, Hop Meadow offers a family-oriented private club experience with “something for everyone,” says Cordani.

Jeff Jackson, Vice President of Golf, shared that the club was inundated with strong candidates when seeking a new head golf professional.  “The selection committee worked their way through dozens of applicants and I believe we have selected a superior professional.  Joe will bring leadership and enthusiasm to our golf programs and membership in a way that will set us apart from all other clubs in the area.”

“I cannot express how excited I am,” Cordani says.  “My wife Christine and I have been looking to return home to the Simsbury area for some time.  To have the opportunity to join Hop Meadow Country Club with its traditions and place in the community is truly an honor.  What makes Hop Meadow great is not just the course, the clubhouse, or the amenities; it’s the membership itself!  I’m proud to be part of the Hop Meadow family.”

A competitive golfer since his days at Simsbury High School, Cordani graduated from the University of Connecticut and was an accomplished member of the UCONN golf team.  His PGA professional career began in the Farmington Valley as head golf professional at Blue Fox Run Golf Club and Tower Ridge Country Club.  He joins Hop Meadow Country Club from the Country Club of New Bedford in North Darmouth, MA where he spent nine years as head golf professional.

Joe is a two-time qualifier of the PGA Tour Travelers Championship and has won multiple championships in both the New England and Cape Cod PGA sections.
