Sharon's Cookie Jar owner Sharon Pisiakowski is hosting a holiday vendor fair at her restaurant on Nov. 30, offering a wide range of different local businesses and vendors the chance to display their wares and give Granby residents the chance to buy local for the holiday season.
Inspired by the idea of greatly expanding the traditional, one-vendor home show (a Tupperware party, for example) into a full market of diverse wares and offerings, Pisiakowski said the open atmosphere takes away the pressure present at some home display parties. Visitors are welcome to come for the entire time the fair happens, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., or pop in for just a few minutes to puruse the vendors' wares.
"I just thought it would be fun for moms to get out for a few hours," Pisiakowski said, noting the additional benefits of promoting local businesses — especially second jobs held by mothers — and creating an open, come-as-you-please atmosphere that isn't always present at home-based vendor parties.
With 21 total vendors, from makeup to storage and child-sized crochet, scrapbooking to jewelry to candles and bags and much more, there will likely be something for everyone. .
"I really just tried to find local people and get a wide variety of products," Pisiakowski said.
Besides increasing the available offerings as compared to a traditional, home-based sales party that often features only one type of product and product line, the fair will expose new vendors to new customers and vice versa. Pisiakowski called it a great networking opportunity for both customers and vendors.
"It's a fun night out, especially for women, but everyone is welcome," Pisiakowski said. "Everybody wins."
Another draw is that each vendor is donating a door prize, giving attendees 21 chances to take home a free gift. Additionally, Amanda Stenhouse of Anew Massage and Wellness will provide chair massage at the event. Pisiakowski's own kitchen will provide some top-notch refreshments, which will likely include cookies, wine, finger foods and possibly hot mulled cider.
"[It will all be] good stuff," Pisiakowski said.
The Holiday Vendor Fair at Sharon's Cookie Jar (498 Salmon Brook St., Granby) happens Friday, Nov. 30, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
