Granby Chamber Names Business Person, Humanitarian of the Year

Congratulations to Scott Wundt of Center Spirit Shop in Granby and Stan Walczewski.

Two members in the Granby business community were honored at the annual Chamber of Commerce meeting Feb. 5 for their service to the community.

Center Spirit Shop owner Scott Wundt was named Business Person of the Year and 52-year Granby resident Stan Walczewski was recognized as Humanitarian of the Year.

Wundt grew up in Granby and bought the liquor store with his brother, Bruce Wundt in 1980, according to the chamber. He is also a full-time sales manager at engine parts distributor Northeast Regional and has served as chamber president.

Adam Kajda was the original owner of the Center Spirit Shop, opening the business in 1972. The shop offers champagne, wine, and beers, including gluten-free and microbrewery options.

The Center Spirit Shop has been active in raising money for various charities, according to the chamber. Patch readers voted the business as their favorite liquor store for Readers' Choice in 2012.

Humanitarian of the Year

The chamber has been giving out the Humanitarian award since 2001. Walczewski has done volunteer work at organizations like McLean Hospice and the Granby Lions Club, according to the chamber. He was a volunteer driver and attendant for the Granby Ambulance Association for 10 years. In addition to helping start and Granby Community TV, he was a member on the governor's Task Force for Telecommunications.

During more than three years in the U.S. Army, Walczewski helped transport supplies into Berlin post-World War II, according to the chamber.
