Business After Hours at Simsbury Bank Draws Crowd

The Granby Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours networking event drew a large crowd of residents and business owners alike Wednesday evening.

Just minutes after opening their doors to the public for a Granby Chamber of Commerce Business After Hours networking event, the Granby branch of the Simsbury Bank was crowded with local business owners and residents.

The Simsbury Bank and the Farmington Valley YMCA sponsored the event, complete with refreshments and door prizes donated by chamber members.

Rebecca Taylor, an administrator for the chamber, said the event usually draws between 60 and 100 people and is always “very well attended.”

“Even though its a small chamber, you always see new faces,” Taylor said.

Taylor estimated that there are about 200 members of the chamber, and within 15 minutes of the event beginning, many of them had already arrived.

Scott Wundt, president of the chamber and owner of the Center Spirit Shop, said the event is a great opportunity to socialize and network. Visitors are able to meet new chamber members as well as connect with existing ones.

Wundt agreed with Taylor saying this particular chamber event usually draws a large crowd.

“We typically have one of the best attendances in the area,” he said.

Simsbury Bank Chief Executive Officer Martin Geitz said the branch has hosted the event several times before. In the 11 years the branch has been in town, he said it has hosted the event several times.

“The chamber is very important to businesses in the community,” Geitz said. “It’s an opportunity for businesses to meet each other and is a good networking opportunity.”

Other chamber members agreed.

Marji LaFreniere, of Marji’s Yarncrafts, has attended the Business After Hours event many times in the past. She said it gives her the opportunity to connect with residents and other local business owners.

“It’s nice to catch up,” she said.

If you happened to miss Wednesday night’s Business After Hours event, rest assured another will soon be on its way. Wundt said the chamber will likely host between five and six networking events this year. Visit their website for more information.
