Freedom on Display at Farmington Valley Arts Center Galleries

Freedom is the theme of two new exhibits on display now at the Farmington Valley Arts Center.

The first, a juried collection of paintings, sculptures and photographs by a myriad of local artists all answering this year's theme - What does freedom mean to you? The exhibit, chosen by Anna Rogulina, Assistant Curator of the New Britain Museum of American Art, is incredibly varied, from dogs running off leash and a boy playing baseball to nature, military and religious themes.

The collection is an impressive, FVAC Gallery Manager Josh Burnelle said at the opening Friday evening.

"Artists were very challenged by the theme we presented. The variety was vast," he said.

The second, Freedom Comes Home, is a sampling of the photographs of Josh Quint, taken while he was deployed in Afghanistan. The pictures portray civilians, landscapes and soldiers.

This exhibit provides a look at the frontline and civilian life through the "fresh green eyes" of Quint's camera, Burnelle said.
