Organist to Play Charlie Chaplin Movie at South Church

On Friday, January 10, 2014 at 7 pm, the Bruce Porter Memorial Music Series in Granby, CT, Goes to the Movies! with Jason Roberts at the South Church Austin organ playing a live accompaniment to the classic black-and-white silent film, Charlie Chaplin’s immortal “The Kid.”

The Kid
 – “ A picture with a smile- and perhaps, a tear." Suitable for all ages, the film lasts for just over an hour. Admission is free, with donations accepted. The church is wheelchair accessible. Bring your friends! Bring the whole family!

The snowdate will be January 17, 2014 also at 7 pm. Check WFSB channel 3 and NBC's Channel 4 and on the church website: www.southchurchgranby.org. We hope to see a lot of families who will enjoy the comedy and drama of this famous action-filled film

“The Kid” is a silent film written by, produced by, and directed by, and starring, Charlie Chaplin in 1921. It features Jackie Coogan as his adopted son and sidekick.

Jason Roberts, well-known as a church and concert organist, has a hidden talent.  He is one of the few today who have mastered using all the theatrical sounds of a pipe organ to make the cinematic drama come to life.   This is a practically lost art in our day, since all our movies come with their own soundtracks.
