Granby Faith Communities Will Host Candlelight Vigil Tonight at 6 p.m.

Gathering to grieve the Newton school shooting victims will take place on the town green in Granby.

Several churches in Granby have come together in the aftermath of the horrific school shootings in Newtown to plan a candlelight vigil tonight at 6 p.m. It will take place on the town green in Granby.

The AP has reported that 27 people were killed in the shootings and at least 18 of them were children. CNN is also reporting that the shooter is Ryan Lanza, a 20-year-old whose parents may also be dead in New Jersey.

The Rev. Virginia McDaniel, senior minister of the First Congregational Church of Granby, said the different faith communities in town wanted to give people a place to express their grief together.

"We'll supply the candles and offer prayer," McDaniel said. "It's a time to let people be together in their sorrow."

Participants so far include First Congregational led by McDaniel and the Rev. Nada Sellers, as well as South Congregational Church led by the Rev. Denny Moon, and Valley Brook Community Church led by the Rev. Clark Pfaff. Other churches will likely join as well, and all are welcome.
