“It will be a showcase of our chamber businesses,” Avon Chamber Executive Director Lisa Bohman said. “Our goal is to get the community more aware of our members and to shop local.”
The event will also be a fundraiser for the Rotary Club of Avon-Canton and its charities. Each year, a different Avon Chamber member non-profit organization will be chosen to be the beneficiary.
TCBY – which stands for The Country’s Best Yogurt – is headlining the event. Owners Lisa and Mark Arnold of Simsbury will donate a percentage of sales of their frozen yogurts, toppings and the event’s signature-named “summer sundae.”
The Arnolds organized a similar event called Summer Fun Day in 2012 and 2013 but this year, decided to team up with their fellow Avon Chamber members.
Performances and contests will be part of this fun afternoon. The Lil’ Kickers from Valley Sports Center will strut their stuff and Bikers Edge will give BMX bike demonstrations.
TCBY will host a yogurt eating contest and Avon Prime Meats will sponsor a hot dog eating contest.
Members of the Valley Collector Car Club will have their classic cars on display, and students of ACROfitness will give demonstrations.
At present, 21 chamber members are slated to participate in Summer Sundae. They include: Aegis Wealth Partners/Guardian Life Insurance, Avon Executive Offices, Avon Prime Meats, Bertucci's Italian Restaurant, Bikers Edge, Guiding Light Orphanage, Keller Williams Realty/The Colvin Group, Koster Family Chiropractic, Marriott Residence Inn-Avon, Miller Foods-Oma’s Pride, SendOutCards-Chip Janiszewski, Seniors Job Bank-Avon, Simsbury Bank, TCBY Avon Marketplace, The Residence at Brookside, The Sewing Loft of Avon, The Zoo Health Club, Valley Sports Center, Waste Material Trucking, Wholesome Animal Grocery Store, Wild Birds Unlimited, and William Raveis Real Estate-Lori Macgowan.
There is no admission charge for Summer Sundae. However, donations will be accepted. The event will be held on Ensign Drive on property owned by Ensign-Bickford Realty, a chamber member. For more information, visit www.avonchamber.com.
