License Plate Reader Update

Below is a response from Granby Police Chief Carl Rosensweig regarding the license plate reader along with a link to a Canton Patch article.

Information is available if you ask.

“Thank you for your question. The vehicle I believe you refer to is a regional initiative between the nine north central communities. The Patch ran a very good article describing the vehicle. I've included a link to the patch article. “

I can't believe I missed that article, in the Canton edition, ... I don't think I missed info on the retention policy though. What is the retention policy? Is this the creation of a permanent record of every car's comings and goings in town (or "the nine north central communities")?

All you have to do is ask for the info. Too many times there are postings with no backup or research. Just throwing it up against the wall to see if if sticks doesn't work. One has to validate and put up facts.

I think it would be in the interest of all citizens when Regional Funds (grants) are used for, in this case, law enforcement. All of us do not read PATCH from the surrounding towns. Any way local PATCH editors can capture this type of news for it's own edition?

I don't like having my lic plate read all over the place then there is a database somewhere that records my movements. Since I work from home my movements are not all that much to talk about. A couple of years ago I went to FL for bike week. I was riding all over the state. A cop would come up behind me and my buddies follow us for a mile or so then peal off. The guys from FL told us they were scanning our plates to make sure we were not wanted or anything like that. Kinda creepy. Beyond that I had no problems with Law enforcement. I just don't like the idea that they will be able to record and have a database of everyone's movements. Just seems UnAmerican.

Makes me think more about doing things out side the system. We are to dependent on activities that are controlled by others. We need not to focus on fighting goverment regulations but start moving away from them. Just my opinion..
