Granby School Student is Runner-Up in Statewide CT Veterans Parade Essay Contest

Kate Hosack, a 7th grader at Granby Memorial Middle School in Granby is one of two runners-up of a statewide contest that asked students to write an essay addressing “Why Do We Honor Veterans?” The 2013 Connecticut Veterans Parade essay contest is presented by The Navy League of the United States – Hartford Council and the State of Connecticut Department of Veterans Affairs. The statewide parade will be held this Sunday, Nov. 3 at 12:30 p.m. in Downtown Hartford.

 

Amie Lee, a 7th grader at Vernon Center Middle School in Vernon is the First Place winner, and Qura-Tul-Ain Khan, an 8th grader at East Windsor Middle School in Broad Brook is the other Runner-Up.

The three top winners read their essays at a special free ceremony in the Connecticut State Capitol’s Hall of Flags this Wednesday, October 30 at 4 p.m. Nearly 300 entries were received from students around the state.
