Galasso has Withdrawn Wetland Application

On July 12th 2011 Galasso received Zone Change from the Planning and Zoning Commission for a 75 acre parcel south toward Hatchet Hill Rd.  Phase III of the Quarry Expansion south will be for approximately half of the approved quarry zone area and will include clearing of 22.9 acres and excavation of 17.6 acres.  For the last 2 years Galasso has been putting together their application to expand the Quarry.

The public hearing for the Quarry Expansion inland wetland application opened on December 4th and was continued per applicant’s request to February 19th  Inland Wetland Commission Special Meeting at 7PM in the Town Hall Public Hearing Room.  This meeting is now cancelled and the applicant has requested withdrawal of their wetland application.

The withdrawal was considered necessary as the applicant is in need of more time to conduct further testing.  One of the key concerns with the wetland application has been the recharge of water to a highly valued wetland system at the base of the hillside slope.  Applicant has provided hydrology data to the Town, but further evaluation on the presence of groundwater suspended on the 3 ft gravel base of the quarry floor is needed to confirm some base assumption presented as part of the hydrology report.  It is anticipated that testing may take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks depending on Mother Nature’s cooperation.  The Town anticipates the applicant to quickly resubmit wetland application and continue to work with Town Staff and Hired Consultants in between resubmittal of wetland application to further refine and finalize their wetland application prior to resubmittal to the Inland Wetlands Commission.
