I'm Baaaaaack! Top 5 Coming Home Songs of All Time

I'm your local editor again. And I'm psyched.

Good morning, Granby and East Granby! Today is Tuesday, July 30, 2013; there are 154 days left in the year.

Kids, guess who your new local editor is?

I’m back.

And I missed you guys terribly. No foolin’.

So let me get you all caught up on what’s happened in the last year:

1. I got married (and yes, you wiseacres, she can see)

2. My wife and I had a baby (that’s him in the photo!)

3. I launched the South Windsor Patch. Then the powers that be said, meh, you’re going to West Hartford and Granby-East Granby.

4. I watched “Sharknado.”

And that’s about it. Don’t ask me to rank what the top thing was, but I’ll give you a hint. Sharknado WAS FREAKIN’ AWESOME!

Man, am I glad to be back with you all. No lie, I pestered my regional editors for the better part of the last 8 months to get this site back. To give you an idea of what the two towns mean to me, since I became an adult, there are three championships that teams I have rooted for have won that made me feel like a kid again: the 1996 Yankees, the 2003 Syracuse Orangemen men’s basketball team and the 2013 Granby Memorial High boys basketball team.

Anyhoo, this is where I’m supposed to do a list of five things that are going on today. But you know what? Not today. Today, we’re going to have a little fun and I’m going to list the top 5 coming home songs of all time.

5. Take Me Home (Phil Collins, 1985) - Fact: this and Against All Odds are the only two Phil Collins songs that I can stomach. As you know, one bad Phil Collins song begets another. But this one is actually halfway decent. My wife just reminded me that there is a ban on Phil Collins in our house. And she’s right. But I like this anyway.

4. Coming Home (Cinderella, 1988). Ask me if I like this song, and I’ll deny it. Because no one likes Cinderella. Except maybe me for this one article.

3. Homeward Bound (Simon and Garfunkel, 1967). Iconic. A classic. Home!

2. Paradise City (Guns ‘n Roses, 1987). The grass is definitely green in the Granbys. Because I am married, I make no comment as to whether the girls are pretty. (I love you honey! Honey?)

1. Home Sweet Home (Motley Crue, 1986). The seminal ballad by the debauched Crue. And this says it all. Good to be back, Granbys.
