Fire Destroys Granby Home, Sends Two to Hospital

An early morning fire destroyed a North Granby Road home and sent two to the hospital Sunday, officials said. 

Members of the Lost Acres Fire Department, with help from area departments, responded to 282 North Granby Road at approximately 5 a.m. Sunday for a fire in a two-story, single-family home, Lost Acres Chief Wayne Bindas said. 

Three people were in the home, two of whom were sent to the hospital. According to multiple media reports the two were treated for smoke inhalation. 

Fire Departments from East Hartland and Simsbury responded with tankers and manpower to assist the Lost Acres department. About 20 firefighters were on scene and the fire took about an hour to control, Bindas said. Firefighters were on scene for a few hours after that, checking for "extension" of the fire and performing other tasks. Part of the structure is still standing but it's total loss, Bindas said. 

"Half of it was well involved when we got there," he said. 

Bindas praised the efforts of his department members as well as the other responders. 

"The members did a good job and everybody worked hard," Bindas said. 

The fire is under investigation by the fire marshal's office.
